Packaged air conditioning units have all components in one “package.” This unit normally sits on rooftops and blows conditioned air through solid sheet metal ducting.
The package air conditioner unit is installed adjacent or on top of a building. Two air ducts connect into the building, one with cold air going in one with room air coming back. The room air coming back gets cooled by the package unit and sent back to the building therefore cooling the space.
An AHU or Air Handling Unit is a commercial indoor unit and is generally installed inside a plant room. It requires an outdoor unit that pumps water or refrigerant to it so it can cool a space.
